PROJECT #1

LACMA

On November 26, 2011, I got the opportunity to go LACMA museum in Los Angeles, California. LACMA museum is so enormous, is almost like the size of a city. I liked it way better than Norton museum, except the parking fee was so expensive. When I arrived to LACMA Museum, I didn't know from what building to start looking at. Soon I started looking at Jane and Marc Nathason Gallery. The first piece of art that impressed me was the big blue dog because when I was younger, I would go to birthday parties or the mall and I would always see clowns doing cute dog balloon figures. All of a sudden I come to LACMA museum and find this gigantic blue dog. This blue dog identifies with me because I always enjoyed looking at the clowns doing figures and I remember that I always wanted these kind of dogs balloons figures. One time back in the days, my parents bought me a dog shape balloons.

The View

While I was taking a walk around all the building, this place that shows the view of Los Angeles City. Los Angeles City, identifies with me because this is where I grew up. Los Angeles City has been my home, its been the city that has showed me the opportunities in life. For example, this museum full of paintings that I didn't know that it existed, Los Angeles City has giving my family and me the opportunity to have a better future. It has giving me the opportunity to go to school and learn. This is why Los Angeles City identifies with me, because its where I have grown up.

Another painting that identifies with me is the painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe, painted by Manuel Arellano in 1691. This painting identifies with me because it represents part of my religion and faith. I am a catholic and I have faith in the virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary is someone who I put my faith into. She is someone who I ask for a miracle or at least someone who I ask for help. I have learned so much about the Virgin Mary that has influenced me to keep myself motivated, even when everything is not going so well.

Favorite Part

This part was my favorite part of the museum, it was a set up of a bunch of different lamppost. It was very beautiful that it was almost romantic. Many people were taking pictures in this area.

Stacked Plates

i wanted to knock them over !!! ;)....... jk !

Over all i had an awesome time at this museum, i loved all the art that i saw and read about. I would differently go back to this museum and experience it again. I cant wait to go to other ones && complete my art projects. :)

THE END ... <3

Raphael Vs Renoir

RAPHAEL
Raffaello Sanzio da Urbinowas born on April 6, 1483 in Urbino, Marche, Italy
Died: April 6, 1520 [age 37] in Rome, Italy

Most Famous Works: The School of Athens, Christ Supported by Two Angels, and The Parnassus
Raphael was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance movement who was celebrated for the perfection and grace of his drawings and paintings. Together with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, he forms the traditional trinity of great masters from that period.

Raphael was born in the small but artistically significant Central Italian city of Urbino in the Marche region, where his father Giovanni Santi was court painter to the Duke. His mother Màgia died in 1491 when Raphael was eight followed on August 1, 1494 by his father, who had already remarried. Orphaned at eleven, Raphael’s formal guardian became his only paternal uncle Bartolommeo, a priest, who subsequently engaged in litigation with his stepmother. He probably continued to live with his stepmother when not living as an apprentice with a master. He had already shown talent, according to Giorgio Vasari, who tells that Raphael had been “a great help to his father”. A brilliant self-portrait drawing from his teenage years shows his precocious talent.

Renoir

Born: Pierre-Auguste Renoir on February 25, 1841 in Limoges, Haute-Viennes, France

Died on December 3, 1919 [age 78] Cagnes-ser-Mer, Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azor, France

Most Notable Works: Bal du moulin de la Galette, Luncheon of the Boating Party and Umbrellas. Pierre Renoir was a French artist who was a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style.

Renoir, the son of a working class family, worked in a porcelain factory as a child where his drawing talents led him to chosen to paint designs on fine china. He also painted hangings for overseas missionaries and decorations on fans before he enrolled in art school. During those years, he visited the Louvre often to study the French masters paintings. In 1862, he began studying art under Charles Gleyre in Paris. At times during the 1860s, he did not have enough money to buy paint. Although Renoir first started exhibiting paintings at the Paris Salon in 1864, recognition did not come for another ten years, due in part to the turmoil of the Franco-Prussian War.

I wasn't able to attend Tuesdays lecture, i got really sick over the weekend with the flu and a fever. I really wanted to attend class but then i thought i wouldn't get any better if i did. I also was trying to get better because i had a really important test to take for my calculus class on Wednesday and i knew if i didn't get better i wouldn't be able to take the test.

i stood home and did some research on the artist i will be presenting on December 6. I found interesting information on the artist and pictures of the sculptures she made.

The Beautiful Blue and Green Music by Georgina

This Painting demonstrates her life long skill with color regardless of the subject matter. Blue ans green music had became prominent with support from Alfred Stieglitz. This abstract piece is beautiful and my favorite. The colors and the detailed work is wonderful, this painting is one of those that relax you when u stare at them.

Michelangelo

Michelangelo was born in Italy on March 6 1475. He passed on February 18 1564 at the age of 88 in Rome Italy. He was na Italian Renaissance painter, splutter, Architect, poet and engineer. He spent most of his life working in Itally for Popes in Rome and also doing indivuadal projecrs in Florance. Michelangelo output in every field during his long life was prodigious when the sheer volume of correspondence sketches and reminiscences that survive is also taken into account he was the best documented artist od the 16Th. century.

This sculpture "Pieta" is one of my favorites that he made. The reason is because my mom has had this sculpture at my house since i was a child and every night she  would make me kneel with her by the bed side and we would pray. My mother is very religious and when she got this piece of art she took it to ger blessed by a priest.

Francisco De Goya VS Rembrandt

De Goya

He was born in Fuendetodos Spain on March 30 1746. Him and his family later in life move to another city where Francisco met Jose Luzan, where this man was an artist and he because his mentor. After some years Francisco went to Italy to go and study, when he came back he he received his first commissions, paintings frescoes in the the Cathedral of El Pilar. He got the commission from a fellow painter the he knew. Later in his life after working a lot and painting many of his most famous pieces he Goya was striked with and illness that left him completely deaf from both ears. He was also given the First Spanish court painter title. Even tho he couldn't hear anymore he became great at communicating eveything through writing and he also learn how to sign.

Most of his paintings are mainly of people dressed in the time of the 1700. The colors he uses are very settle which make the paintings look very soft and simple but at the same time they have a lot of detail bcause of the people he painted. Their clothing and their hair also detailed and everything is just very smooth and flows and melts right into each other. This is why i picked this artist i really liked his art work.

Rembrandt

Born: Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn on July 15, 1606 in Leiden, Dutch Republic
Rembrandt was a Dutch painter and etcher. He is generally considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European history and the most important in Dutch history. His contributions to art came in a period that historians call the Dutch Golden Age.

Having achieved youthful success as a portrait painter, his later years were marked by personal tragedy and financial hardships. Yet his etchings and paintings were popular throughout his lifetime, his reputation as an artist remained high, and for twenty years he taught many important Dutch painters. Rembrandt’s greatest creative triumphs are exemplified especially in his portraits of his contemporaries, self-portraits and illustrations of scenes from the Bible. His self-portraits form a unique and intimate biography, in which the artist surveyed himself without vanity and with the utmost sincerity.

Lecture: Presentations

Today in class, 3 students presented their Artist. For the most part i think all the presentations are interesting and l love all the painting the students post on their blogs as references to show to the class. I like this idea of having an artist to research and have to to present to the class, especially that we got to pick the artist that most interest us the most. I havent presented my artist yet, i have been doing as but research as i can and put things together, things that are going to keep all students engaged in during my presentation. i will not be presenting till the 6th od December. I still have a while buy im sure the time will pass by super fast.

Also, Glenn wanted some feed back from students on what to do for or last projects. We gave some ideas, but Glenn said that he would but some things together and present it to us next week this way we could pick or next 2 projects. I like how our instructor wants to hear our opinions and lets us give him ideas of what should we do as a class. I really enjoy going to class every MOnday even if its a evening class :)

Diego Rivera vs Gustav Klimt

A little about Diego, he was one of Mexico's famous painters. He didn't want to go to go a traditional panting school so he began to develop a style that combined historical, social and political ideas. His great body work reflects cultural changes taking places in Mexico and around the world during the turbulent century. He was born in Guanajuato MX and he also had a twin, but died at a young age. Diego began to drew at only 3 years old.

Diengo has beautiful painting full of life and details. Ever since i was  young i loved to look at his painting and read about where he came from. i even remember learning about him in elementary school. His painting are very cultural, the woman he paints look very traditional just like the woman in Mexico. The colors he uses in the paintings are soft and add life and make everything very warm. His paintings would look great in any home as decoration.

The painting above is my favorite from Diego, this reminds me of when i would go to Mexico as kid and my mom would have me smash chilis and that same tool and also we would make tortillas for dinner that evening. Most of these paintings remind me of when i go to mexico and see al my family and spend time with everyone during the holidays.

Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt was born on Kuly 14, 1862 in Baumgarten Australia. He was the second child out of seven siblings && he was the son of a poor jeweler engraver. Gustav began developing his talent as an artist at the age of 14 years old he attended a University and graduated at the age of 20. He then began to do paintings here and there. Time passed and he founded a company of artists with his brother and a fellow student. Their found was much success as mural painters, getting contracts from museums, theaters and other decorative artwork for wealthy patrons.

Klimt got most of his talent form his father, he was the one that tough him a lot of what he knew and many of his paintings were inspired by what his dad had tough him. Once of the skills his father tough him was engraving. His paintings often included gold and silver paint, metalt and ceramics and most of the attention was given to the ornamental details the paintings had. Very few of his paintings were done on canvases Klimt just preferred to paint murals. His murals were very interesting pieces, they were very abstract and most of them have a lot of shapes put in to them more that being an image. I like the colors of most of his murals and i like the idea of them also, for the most part the murals all relate to each other im some way or another.

Potluck Day!!!!

Todays potluck was AWESOME !!!!! got to enjoy so much food. I like when we have days like this in class, we get to eat as a class and enjoy food while we conversate as a class on different subjects. We also listened to the people that presented their artist which they did a fabulous  job: intreating and great artist they presented. All in all we should have potlucks more often, they are fun and the best part of all is we get to eat !!! We wont ever get to do this in any other class especially in college. Im glad i have Glenn as a professor he is a great teacher :) !!!!

Also , the movie Terminal 5 was a great movie!!!

Edgar Degas Vs El Greco

French painter and sculpture is considered to be one of the major representatives of impressionism. He was also known as the most active organization. Edgars favorite subjects were ballet dancers, woman at their toilette, cafe life and race tracks  scenes. He made notes and sketches from living models in motion to reserve informality of actin and position. Most of his paintings have this special effect where it looks like it is blurry and everything kind of blends together. The Paints dont have harsh lines over thing looks like it is meshed together

The image on the left is another ballet painting. Edgar loved painting woman dancing ballet. This painting also does not have any rough lines they are mostly blended and that gives a blurred look to this painting, which in a way makes it unique because not many artist patin this way. The colors that are also used seem to be settled not too bright, which  kind of makes the image look old and vintage.

El Greco

Greco's panting seem to be more on the religious side. He has painted for big Catholic Cathedrals, where his paintings still remain on the walls. After researching his work, i really liked is paintings, because  they a re religious and i could relate to them. Also, because they have so much detail and each painting seems like it also has a lot of meaning behind them.

This painting was my favorite out of all the ones i saw. I like the detail i see in the painting the colors of Jesus, his facial expresion he has. It seems he is in pain and had sadness in his hear. The detail in his hands are just right and the background make the painting look like he is feeling pain/sad.

Greco has been one of my favorite artist also because these paintings remind me of my mother. She is very religious and she has images like these in our home.

Lecture: Literacy

Tuesdays lecture was about Literacy.
During class we discussed how our parents and our grandparents didn't have the technology we have today. For instance, they didn't have the internet to research for thing, or complete homework or even send important email for business prepuces, or even have Facebook like we do now to keep in touch with extended family or even old classmates for elementary school. If they could suddenly life in our time i think they would feel out of place or even wouldn't be able to believe how the internet work and how its a big part of everyones every day life.

We also discussed having cell phones and texting. It hasn't been that long since cellphones were invented or even having internet in a cell phone. Our parents didn't have any of this technology when they were our age. Now it is so easy to get a hold of some one. Furthermore, having this type of technology cant also help make time go buy faster by either txting friends or playing a few games or even surfing the web whenever you're bored.

All these things can relate to being educational literate. The web is so important to every student , for every business owner for every person that uses the computer.  It is easy and fast to look up anything on the internet from directions to recipes to researching somehing for s class, completing homework, looking up news or even playing games.Texting and cellphones also help with educations in good ways, sometimes it can be distracting while studying or doing homework but for the most part cellphones are used at all times.
