Marc Chagall VS Salvador Dali
Marc Chagall
Marc was born on July 7,1887 in Russia. After living there for many years he decided to move to France in 1932. He then moved to the US in 1941 and lived here till 1948 he then moved back to France. Marc died in France on March 28, 1985.
Marcos painting styles seem to me like they are mostly Expressionism and Cubism. In his paintings, he ofter painted violinists because he played the violin and also in memory of one of his uncles, who also liked to play. Looking at the paintings, i really liked the colores he used for each image. Also, the colors he used to shade. The color the he chose are not realistic colors the are usually used to shade, these are color that aren't usually used to shade. For example the image on top has purple, pink, yellow, blue and orange to shade. This painting looks unique, different but every eye catching and well done will life and precession.
This other painting was another one of my favorite. To me it looks like its a water paining. Everything looks so blended and as if the colors are meting all together. There aren't really any hard lines in this painting. The image, i also love. The lady looks like she is praying. Her facial expressions are full of passion.
Salvador Dali
Salvador Dali was born in Spain in 1904. When he was a child, he began to show strange behavior and often interrupted his classes in school. As he got older, he started to paint pictures that came from his dreams. The types of dreams he would have usually have were scary and unusual.
Deli went to an art school in Madrid, Spain. He got kicked out and never finished. He even spent time in jail at one point in his life.
Salvador always drew every item he could think of, but he would always change the image to something different and odd. For instance, the image above is one of his famous images. It is a clock, but a clock that is melting. The clock also looks like its antique and old, but that adds character to it and make the painting unique.
Before Dali died at the age of 85, he had created works and films, ballet, opera, fashion and also adevertising illustration.
This image above cached my attention because if you glance at it quickly it looks like a lady with blonde hair. If you focus on this image closely you can see that i it a part of a house where the curtains are the hair the wooden floor is part of her chin and face the eyes, nose and lips are objects that are part of the room but also create her face.

Lecture: Identity
i enjoyed being in class on Tuesday, we talked about identity and how every person has certain characteristics that identify them whether it is in a good way or bad. For example, professor Glenn used the movie Avatar as reference . We watched a few senes where Jake is paralyzed and is not able to walk. Jake is used as a an experiment to be sent to the Pandora planet to help explore the way the avatars live and what their would is like. When Jake was being sent to the planted thru the machine, he began to really like the life as an avatar not as a human. He became addicted because he was able to walk and enjoy his legs once again just like he did as a human. He then started to fall in love with one of the avatars, that gave him more of a reason to go to the Pandora world.
After discussing identity with the class, i thought about how every person has their own identity that sets everyone apart from each other. For example, someone that is short, that is what identifies them physically, or also some that cant walk is also something that identifies someone physically. You can identify someone also by their personality. For example, some one that is funny and has a sense of humor could be set apart form everyone else. But when you think about it most people aren't satisfied with what they have. Everyone always wants what they dont have. For example, someone that is tall will most likely complains and ask why am i so tall i wish i was short. Same thing for a short person, they most likely would want to be tall.
To conclude, we should accept ourselves for who we are and how we were born because we dont have the choice and we can not change each other.
Artist: Henri Fantin-Latour Vs. Max Ernst
Henri Fantin-Latour
Henri was born in France in 1836. His father was a painter and that is where Henri learned his panting skills and eventually has his work at a famous gallery in France.
After looking at his art work online i realized that most of his art are flowers and nature. His art work is very precise and very clean. Most of his work are either portraits, fruits or flowers.
The image to the left is one of my favorite pieces. This painting reminds me of my mom because she loves flowers especially buying them and putting them up in the kitchen as a natural decoration. As far as the painting i like the colors he chose for the flowers. The colors make the painting look very calming and soothing and realistic. i would definitely love to put this painting up in my living room. It is so detailed and there is so much passion and thought put into this painting. I love how this painting reminds me of Love, Life and Relaxation.
Lastly, this painting is one of my other favorites painting from Henri. This painting is so detailed with the trees in the background, all the leafs on the trees u can count each one of them. The man and the woman are also so detailed, the woman's long dress and her hair. This painting brought me back memories of when i was in Mexico one day and i found an old album full of pictures on of my grandmother and my parents and aunts. The pictures where black and white and also the way they were dressed were alike just like the painting above.
Max Ernst
Max was also born in France in 1891, he went to school and studied Philosophy. He then bagan to get into an art movements. He always had an interest in art and began to paint.
His paintings are different than Henri's paintings. Max' paintings are more creative and have many deferent shapes, color and significance behind it. They remind me of abstract things that are all put together in one and signify something. For example the painting on top looks like there is a figure with two legs and 1 arm, kind of reminds me of an monter. With a mini monster sitting on top of something hekoing the other monster paint some thing on a green canvas.
Both artist are very unique and creative, i loved every painting i found.

Lecture:The Drawing
The image above is what i drew last week during class. Professor Glenn used the projector to project this image for the class. He then broke down the image into 5 sections and so did we on our paper. He displayed the first piece of the picture and we had to draw it on our paper. At frist when i began to draw i found it easy to just copy the couple of lines on to my paper. Next, when Glenn revealed the second piece of the image it was a bit more challenging, i found the i started drwaing the image too big and it wasn't looking like what its suppose to. Once i got to the third image it was a bit harder because i began to see the image and i found it was a man and i was starting to draw some hands, which these hands did not look like hands the fingers looked like warms. When i was done drawing i went back and adjusted some line to make my drawing look more realistic rather than a kids drawing. When i picked up my paper to look at the image from far, i stared laughing at my drawing! it just looked really funny but yet unique in its own way.
I enjoyed this experience, it made me realize that drawing isn't easy, it is a talet. I am not the greatest artist but i do find drawing fun and also relaxing at the same time especially when its done in a quiet room with soft music in the background. :)

Artist of the week
Architect Frank Lloyd Wright
FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT (1867-1959)
Born: Frank Lincoln Wright on June 8, 1867 in Richland Center, Wisconsin
Most Notable Works: Robie House, Price Tower, Fallingwater and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
Most Notable Works: Robie House, Price Tower, Fallingwater and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
Died: April 9, 1959 [age 91] in Phoenix, Arizona
Frank Lloyd Wright was an American architect, interior designer, writer and educator, who designed more than 1,000 projects, which resulted in more than 500 completed works.
Originally named Frank Lincoln Wright, he changed his name after his parents’ divorce to honor his mother’s Welsh family, the Lloyd Joneses. His father, William Carey Wright was a locally admired orator, music teacher, occasional lawyer and itinerant minister. William Wright met and married Anna Lloyd Jones, Frank’s mother, a county school teacher, the previous year when he was employed as the superintendent of schools for Richland County. Wright attended a Madison high school but there is no evidence he ever graduated. He was admitted to the University of Wisconsin–Madison as a special student in 1886. There he joined Phi Delta Theta fraternity, took classes part-time for two semesters, and worked with a professor of civil engineering, Allan D. Conover. In 1887, Wright left the school without taking a degree (although he was granted an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from the University in 1955).
The beautiful falling water house
Wisconsin. He became the most influential architect of modern history. In the late 19th century, Wright left the supervision of Louis Sullivan to design homes for Midwestern clients. His trademark became the “Prairie Style” home, duplicated in many locations around the U.S. with decidedly non-prairie landscapes. Many homes are preserved in the Oak Park district of Chicago, also notable as the birthplace of Ernest Hemingway. Wright was very passionate about creating inviting interior rooms because he felt that the inner rooms are just as important as the exterior design of the building he created. Frank once stated, “The building is no longer a block of building material dealt with, artistically, from the outside. The room within is the great fact about building-the room to be expressed in the exterior as space enclosed.” His world-famous home design, Fallingwater, challenges the idea of indoor and outdoor space. Fallingwater was built into the face of a cliff near Pittsburgh.
Wright promoted organic architecture (exemplified by Fallingwater), was a leader of the Prairie School movement of architecture (exemplified by the Robie House, the Westcott House, and the Darwin D. Martin House), and developed the concept of the Usonian home (exemplified by the Rosenbaum House). His work includes numerous original and innovative examples of many different building types, including offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, and museums. Wright also often designed many of the interior elements that were included in his buildings, such as the furniture and stained glass.

Art @ Cypress College
This past lecture was probably one of my favorite class time/lecture by far. Professor Glenn had us pick a group of 3 people for this particular project. We then walked towards the pond of cypress and he gave each group tape. Each group had to walk around the area and look for objects or a area the represented art and come up with a reason of why it relates to us or anything in anyway. After each group found the object we would then have to put a triangle of tape on it. After all groups were done, went to each groups piece of art and we described what it meant to them and why they chose that particular area or thing. Next, i will display 3 of my favorite art pieces that other groups presented and i will explain what they meant to these groups.
The Pond
This is our pond at Cypress College. I liked this piece because the tape that is going across the image and warping around the palm trees are guides, kinda like looking at a canvas that is captivating the live fountain. This imaged looked amazing in person and especially because it was at night. The light of the water fountain reflecting on to the pond and also the lighting around it and the lighting from the library. The green fluffy grass around everything made it look even more relaxing and the students walking in the background made it look as if we were looking at a live canvas. This piece is full of life, relaxation and beauty.
The Abstract Tree
This piece was another one of my favorites. The group called it The Tree. This tree symbolized life, the rocks on the wood are like humans. The way the are placed also symbolize us and how sometimes we have to change and do different things to get to where we want to be. For example, the rock at the top of the tree is someone that has reached every goal in life and is successful, the other rocks are on the branches are on their way up the tree alternating and moving around to get to where they want to be. The little pebbles at the bottom symoblize all the young ones that are in the process of climbing to the top of the tree.
Flower
This was my 3rd favorite, this represents a flower that is blooming and is full of life. This represents the students at Cypress College that are getting ready for the real world by taking the required classes and getting ready to bloom the day they graduate.

A night without electricity :/
On Sunday night i decided to experience a night without electricity. My first reaction was i thought about my phone and how i knew my friends would probably text me and i wouldn't be able to reply, so what i did was it txtd the people i knew would probably txt me and i just let them know i was going to bed really early. The experience i got out of this was relaxation for the most part. Once there wasn't any natural light coming in to my bed room i lite up 2 big candles that would help me relax but still be able to see so i could complete some homework. i started to read a chapter for my Econ class. As i was reading i found it a little hard to concentrate with such little lighting, so i stopped and i began to do my math homework. That was a succes i was able to complete most of it without a problem, it did take me longer that usual but for the most part i was fine. i then looked at my watch and it was 10:00 pm already and i still wasn't tired. I decided to organize all the shoes under my bed. As i was finishing up my mom walked in my room and asked me why was i hiding in my room with no light, TV, computer, or phone. I explained to her how this was a project for my Art class. She said "wow thats a good thing ! this way you actually have time for your self and u have some time away from your phone and the computer" i laughed and then agreed with her. At this point there was nothing else left to do so i decided to go to bed :).
I enjoyed this experience, i have never done it other than when the lights have gone out because of crazy storms during the winter. i would do it again, but i defiantly wouldn't be able to live with out electricity after knowing what it feels like having all the technology we have now.

Brian VS Scott
Scott Blake
This image shows Scott Blake turning barcodes into art forms, using it to create images of Jesus. I did some research on Scott Blake and he uses barcodes and turns them into different kinds of images. This images of Jesus looks so simple an original. It also looks like the image of Jesus we christians see in other images. Using barcodes to create images is just something so unique. Scott Blake art work shows some inspiration because it makes me feel like we could use anything to create beautiful images as the image of Jesus. The eyes of Jesus look so real that this picture would not make any difference as the other images.
It took him thousands of barcodes to create this images. There is no way you can count the barcodes in this image. It makes me want to turn to barcodes and see the creations behind them. The barcodes seem like a black and a white color. However, it takes an open mind to see the real meaning of barcodes.

Brian Ho
Bryn picture shows sadness and depression. Bryn is closing her eyes and looks likes she is trying to forget everything that exists in the world. The color of the image is black with grey. These colors in many cases represent death or loneliness. Bryn looks in the middle of a fog where nothing is seen exept for her. Bryn has wings that may represent freedom in some way. Her dress is black and there seems to be a moon glowing Bryn.
This picture makes me feel sad and depressed. The colors make me feel lonely. Bryn has wings but she looks like she is not ready to fly. I took a look at other other images of Bryn Ho and all her pictures consist of a dark color. It makes me feel like Bryn feels depressed at times that may be a reason why she uses dark colors in her images.
Lecture: Graffiti
Thoughts about Graffiti
People that write graffiti see graffiti as an expression of thoughts, feelings, emotions and more. They feel that graffiti represents more than just letters written on the walls. For these people, graffiti represents somethings positive for the cities and the people who get eye captured by this type of art. For example, graffiti has been use to defend the rights of many people. Many of these positive graffiti postings have help people open their eyes and view the reality and do something about it. As the people who are against graffiti, they see graffiti as an act of vandalism and they consider it as not okay. These people do not see graffiti as art, therefore they believe that these people don’t deserve the right to be doing graffiti in the streets. People who do graffiti feel that it is more harmful to see propaganda all over the city which just gets to people to do and buy all the things they see rather than a city full of graffiti that represents more than just gang graffiti. However, many people have not realized that propaganda is more harmful than graffiti. The problem is that propaganda plays with our minds all the time, we humans get eye captured easily by any poster in the street and we don’t realized that all is doing is getting us to do and buy the things their posting. As graffiti is only representing something positive for our society and has nothing to do with playing with our minds and harming us. We should try to focus more on the positive things that graffiti has rather than the negative feelings people have about graffiti. Many people who do graffiti, do it because they also want to help someone else. For example, in Sao Paulo, this young man gets inspired through graffiti to someday be recognized and from there take this family away from poverty. Graffiti could have positive outcomes for people.
